Li River Fishermen

Huang Quan De with one of his cormorant birds in the village of Xing Ping, Guangxi province where he and his family have lived for many decades. Nowadays, the birds are used primarily for tourism and photo opportunities. In spite of this the fisherman still takes the time to understand and train the bird in exactly the same way that he used to when he was working with them decades earlier. The relationship, built up very slowly, between the two is very close and the death of a cormorant, primarily caused by canine attacks or pollution in the river environment, means the long process of cultivating the skills and trust has to begin all over again
