Li River Fishermen

Huang Quan De, the older of two brothers who have fished and worked on the Li river in Guangxi province, China for decades using traditional cormorant birds and rafts. At over 80 years old his strength belies his age as , despite the change in direction towards tourism rather than fishing, he and his brother continue to build rafts by hand using the simplest of tools. The two brothers are rare amongst fishermen in the area in that they originally used to employ the traditional techniques to make a living before turning to tourism whereas others simply learn the basic craft of bird handling in order to pose for tourist photos from the passing cruise ships
