Chinese lunar New Year's Day at Yonghegong Temple in Beijing. On this day, the first of the Chinese lunar calendar, many people flock to temples across China to pray, burn incense and offer gifts in order for a blessing to be bestowed upon them for good fortune in the coming year. Often these gatherings provide a compelling spectacle as people are all but consumed by the the resulting ash and smoke from the fires that are lit to burn the incense sticks
